How did your experience at Keystone College shape your personal and professional journey? Are there any specific programs, professors, or experiences at Keystone that were particularly influential?
I toured Keystone before applying. Once I stepped foot onto the beautiful, tucked-away campus, I was overwhelmed with a sense of calmness, friendliness, and kindness. The encounters I’ve had with my classmates, the staff, and faculty were extremely positive. Keystone fit my own core values and culture that I could thrive in and most importantly, be myself. I’ve been on other educational journeys, but they did not compare to the support, care, and motivation that I received from Keystone faculty. I attribute much of my success today to the coursework, professional skills, interpersonal skills, job opportunities, and internships that Keystone provided. It wasn’t just one program, as every class gave me valuable takeaways for my profession and for my life. Keystone shaped me through a well-rounded and dynamic learning experience that ignited my passion while also challenging me to develop as an individual. It is a place I can never thank enough and will always be special.
What advice would you give to current students at Keystone College who are pursuing similar career paths or interests?
The doors are right in front of you, but you have to be the one to open them.
It can be scary to step out of your comfort zone. Keystone provides excellent resources on internships, career coaching, writing skills, tutoring, counseling, and more. Use those resources to learn a new skill, make new friends, or explore a new interest.
Build relationships with your instructors.
Your instructors want you to succeed. They are always on your side. Take time to get to know them and learn from them. I remember during my senior year joining some faculty in the library over coffee, just to chat. Do not be silent if you have a problem. Keystone’s staff and faculty can guide you in the right direction.
Join clubs and activities to make connections.
Go to events that are happening on campus. Talk to your classmates instead of looking down at your phone. Be the one to introduce yourself and break the ice. Believe me, you all have something in common and would enjoy making new friends. Many of my good friends and colleagues today were once sitting with me in class.
It’s okay to change your major
College is a journey and not a straight and narrow path. It is full of twists and turns that can lead you to explore new ideas, spark interests, and ignite passions. Take up classes in different subjects. You never know what can pique your interest. Be sure to consult with your advisor often to stay on track.
You make the most of your experience
You are uniquely you, and so is your college experience. You will feel challenged, and that is a good thing – you are growing. You are in the driver’s seat of your education. Make it valuable to you to help you meet your goals.
Is there any other information or anecdotes you would like to share with us?
